Our values and operating principles

Innovate Comms was established out of a desire to not just showcase the amazing innovative work being undertaken in the technology industry, but also to work with individuals and organisations that share our values.

These values shape the way we operate and the work that we perform for our clients. We actively seek and choose to work with both clients and subcontractors who share these values.

Social Responsibility

Innovation has the potential, when harnessed correctly, to tackle some of society’s biggest problems.  It is important therefore that innovation is purposeful, not undertaken purely for its own sake.  This core belief guides everything we do at Innovate Comms and we believe comms can play a vital role in bridging the gap between innovation development and society adoption, participation and interaction.

We choose to work with organisations and consortiums who share this belief and are working on innovations that can change the world for the better, and are motivated by the opportunity to do so.

The climate emergency is undoubtedly the most pressing challenge of our time.  Innovate Comms is mindful of this and has actively sought out the opportunity to work on numerous innovation projects focused on tackling this crisis, from vehicle to grid technology to future urban neighbourhoods.

Our virtual agency model enables us to minimise our environmental footprint and beyond this, we operate a number of environmentally focused policies:

  1. Internal meetings are held virtually wherever possible, and without compromising outputs, to minimise unnecessary travel
  2. Advising and working with clients to minimise waste and avoid production of unnecessary marketing materials such as branded “swag”
  3. Finding local suppliers for innovation projects e.g. printing, to minimise delivery miles

Innovate Comms’ leadership team are also personally passionate about mental health and are ambassadors for normalising discussions about mental health and illness.  Innovate Comms believes that people should be able to express and bring their whole selves to the workplace and is committed to creating open and supportive working environments with clients and subcontractors, to nurture the wellbeing of all.

As well as being a Mental Health First Aiders, Vicki DeBlasi and Mary Paslawski frequently speak at events about their mental health experiences and founded State of Us, a mental health network for the marketing and communications industry in 2022.

Diversity & Inclusion

As a female-owned and led company, diversity and inclusion is vitally important to us.  As an organisation, we believe that innovation should benefit everyone, not just the fortunate few.  And to do this, diversity and inclusion should be baked into the innovation process from the ground up.

Wherever possible therefore we try to work with organisations and co-innovation projects that share these principles, integrating diversity and inclusion into their make-up.  We also endeavour to practice what we preach in our comms endeavours through:

  1. Assembling teams through our virtual agency model that are diverse and inclusive
  2. Ensuring gender and ethnic diversity in events and external showcases, ensuring that all have the chance to speak: no “manels” on our watch!
  3. Ensuring all comms materials and creative assets reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion through a diverse use of actors, voiceover artists, stock imagery and animated profiles.
  4. Working with organisations and consortiums to engage the general public through comms outreach strategies and tactics that are consciously tailored to reach all sections of society, not just those who may have a natural interest or affinity.
  5. Respecting diversity of thought and opinions. We recognise that different perspectives and experiences are valuable in helping us shape content that is more broadly accessible. We actively seek, and challenge ourselves to be open and receptive to, fresh and alternative in order to deliver the best possible work.
